My top 16 anticipated films of 2019!

Opening Thoughts:

Happy New Year everyone! Hope everyone is having a solid January so far. As you can tell from the title of this post, this will be about my anticipated films of 2019. I never did this type of post before on my blog so let’s see how this goes. It should be fun! 2018 was a great year for movies but I think 2019 will be an even better year (hopefully). Many people have a top 10 list but as I was looking at the upcoming movies for this year, I couldn’t help but add a couple of more which is why I have a top 16 list. But I’m letting everyone know that this doesn’t mean one is highly anticipated than the other. So it’s not ranked from high to low. It’s just a list of 15 films that I’m hyped for. So let’s get down to business!

My List:

16. Child’s Play

I really enjoy the original Child’s Play movie that was released in the late 80’s. It’s an enjoyable horror film. I do enjoy the sequels but things went out of hand with Bride and Seed of Chucky. I never saw those but just looking at the plot, I knew it was going to be a disaster. Curse of Chucky was surprisingly good. I’d say it’s my second favorite Chucky movie. But Cult of Chucky was an abomination. I heard rumors that the sequel to Cult of Chucky was going to take place in space and boy I’m glad that was cancelled. I can understand why Hollywood is rebooting the franchise so I’m hoping this reboot film was the right solution.

15. Godzilla: King of the Monsters

I remember seeing the 2014 Godzilla film in theaters and I just thought it was an ok film. It could’ve been way better for sure. But once I heard Godzilla has his own universe with King Kong being his enemy (Kong: Skull Island), I knew there was hope for this franchise. I still have yet to see Kong: Skull Island and I’m sure I’ll enjoy it. So I’m hoping King of the Monsters is a solid film and it leads up perfectly well for Godzilla and King Kong to brawl eventually in a future film.

14. It: Chapter Two

I’m a big fan of Stephen King’s books. But I have not seen too many of his live action films. That includes It: Chapter One. I have not read the book either so one of my goals for this year is to read the book first and then see the first film in order to prepare to see the second film this September.

13. Us

Get Out directed by Jordan Peele took everyone by surprise. It was a film that not only was really good but it also conveyed a message. Not a lot of horror films do that in my opinion so Peele did something unique. Peele stated himself on Twitter that Get Out is like a documentary. Us is also an upcoming horror movie so movie lovers will definitely check this one out since it’s the director that directed Get Out.

12. A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood

I loved seeing Mr. Rogers Neighborhood as a little kid. He made my childhood so special. And I think we can all agree that Mr. Rogers had the best looking sweaters! I’ve seen the 2018 documentary film and it was a touching one. Tom Hanks is one of my favorite actors of all time and I cannot wait to see how he portrays Mr. Rogers.

11. The Lion King

The 1994 animated Lion King movie is one of my favorite films of all time. I’ve seen it countless of times as a kid. I loved the teaser trailer of the live action one and I’m highly hoping it is an enjoyable film. I know it won’t be great as the animated one but I’m hoping it to be a film that can capture the magic like the original film did.

10. Captain Marvel

I unfortunately do not know too much of the Captain Marvel character but thanks to internet research, I am interested in seeing how the movie is like. After seeing Infinity War, movie fans (including myself) are wishing to know who Captain Marvel is and see what is she capable of. I’m hoping her origin movie is a solid film and it doesn’t look like it’s lackluster. This movie will be a turning point for Brie Larson’s acting career so it’s a must watch for sure!

9. Glass

M. Night Shyamalan has made some great movies but he also has made some terrible movies. My favorite movie made by him is The Sixth Sense. I loved Unbreakable and Split and I’m excited to see how Glass turns out after the events of Split. The movie comes out in a few weeks so that will be my first 2019 that I’ll be seeing. Cannot wait!

8. Once Upon a Time in Hollywood

Quentin Tarantino is one of my favorite directors of all time. I’ve not seen all of his films but the ones that I’ve seen are great no doubt. Leonardo DiCaprio is one of my favorite actors of all time so any movie that he is in, you know you have to check it out. But the best part about this movie is that he will be acting alongside Brad Pitt for the first time. So you know this movie is a must watch. Brad Pitt is also a great actor and I’ve been wanting these two to be in a film for a while now! Finally it’s happening!

7. Star Wars: Episode IX

After The Last Jedi, no one knew the Star Wars fanbase would be divided. Some loved The Last Jedi and some thought it was the worst Star Wars film ever made. Everyone is wandering how Episode IX will turn out. Some lost hope but some are hoping the ninth episode will revive the franchise. J.J. Abrams has a lot of work to do if he want the Star Wars fanbase back as one again. So I’m really curious which direction will they go at in Episode IX. I’m HOPING it’s a really good movie.

6. John Wick: Chapter 3

I knew when the first John Wick came out, everyone loved it. People were saying it’s the best Keanu Reeves movie since The Matrix. Majority of movie fans loved the sequel too. Unfortunately I did not get to see the first two movies yet. Shocking I know. But I recently bought the first two movies on 4K Bluray so I’ll be seeing those two films before seeing the third one this May. Can’t wait!

5. Spider-Man: Far From Home

Any Spider-Man movie that comes out, it’s automatically in my anticipated list. I’ve been a Spider-Man man all my life and I’m pumped to see the sequel to Homecoming. Plus this will be the first time Mysterio will appear in a live action Spider-Man film, so movie fans need to see how Jake Gyllenhaal pulls off the iconic character. The movie also takes place after the events of Avengers: Endgame so we need to see the status of Spider-Man with all that happened in Infinity War and what will happen in Avengers: Endgame

4. Avengers: Endgame

After the shocking ending of Infinity War, I automatically wanted to know what will happen in Avengers 4. Infinity War was a movie that captured the 10 years of magic the fans grew to love with the MCU. It was a game changer of the MCU but Avengers 4 will be an even bigger game changer for sure. I loved the teaser trailer of the film and I literally cannot wait to see this movie at the end of April. Avengers: Endgame is not just a movie, it’s an EVENT!

3. Joker

The Joker is not just my favorite Batman villain, it’s one of my favorite villains of all time in general. We all know Heath Ledger’s performance as the Joker in the The Dark Knight is legendary and no one before and after him has been able to top his performance. His version of the Joker will always be my favorite. But I’m always excited to see any movie that has The Joker in it and I always give credit to the new actors that portrays the character. I just think Heath Ledger just took it to a new level. But I cannot wait for Joaquin Phoenix’s version of the Joker since it’s an origin movie and Robert De Niro will be in it too. So that’s always a plus!

2. Toy Story 4

The Toy Story films are one of the first animation films that I grew up watching as a kid/teen and still to this day I love them to death. I unfortunately never saw any of the three movies in theaters. But I have seen all three movies countless of times at home and I’m hyped to see the fourth one in theaters since I’ve never seen a Toy Story film in theaters. I’m also very curious of how the fourth one will turn out because the third movie concluded things really well. But I’m happy they are making a fourth one and I’ve heard the fourth one is the most emotional yet. So I know I’m in for a real special treat.

1. The Irishman

I’ve been a huge Martin Scorsese fan only recently but I have seen majority of his films. My favorite film of his is Goodfellas and he is one of my favorite directors of all time. I am really excited to see this film because I’ll get to see Joe Pesci act again since he hasn’t been in any mainstream movies for a while. This movie will also be the first time Robert De Niro, Joe Pesci, and Al Pacino are all acting together. So this movie is definitely a must watch for all movie fans including myself. Goodfellas was my very first movie review on my blog (fun trivia).

Final Thoughts:

Overall, these are my top 16 films that I’m hyped to see for 2019. I’ll probably see more films than these 16 that I’ve mentioned but these 16 are the ones that I’m really excited in seeing. As I said before, these 16 are not ranked in any order. It’s just a basic list of the films that I’m hyped in seeing for this year. I know top 16 sounds unusual since people do top 5, or 10, or 30, etc. But I’ve looked at the movie list of this year and these 16 are the ones that I’m currently hyped about. I’m hoping 2019 is a great year for movies and I’m hoping majority of these 16 movies are really good films. Stay tuned for another film related post or another movie review!
